Secrets and Scandals

The Lexington Public Library (built 1912 or so) has recently installed a new elevator to finally ensure the three story library is handicapped accessible. The new elevator addition has been completed with the renovations seamlessly merging into the architecture of the original building.  The upstairs rooms of the library were designed long ago for meetings – and were used extensively for 50 years when Music Club, Travel Club, Literary Club, etc. took up the evenings of Lexington ladies so long ago.  With the completion of the elevator, those meeting rooms are now accessible to all.

THE FORT was asked to do a series of three fall programs – (The September program has already taken place). The upcoming October 8 and the November 12 programs will give folks an opportunity to see the renovations and to use the third floor meeting room.

Jan Heuer, who is responsible for Public Relations (note: among many hats she wears at the Society!) at the Lexington Genealogical  & Historical Society, writes, “Secrets and Scandals” seemed like a topic that would “bring them in” so we decided to gather interesting tidbits we have discovered over the years that aren’t especially “appropriate” for a published article or a powerpoint show.  We hoped to get enough stories for one night of the series, but we came up with enough material for all three programs!!  We just sit and tell the stories – no powerpoint or photos needed – just imagination – and our first night went well, with about 20 visitors. We do use a microphone so everyone can hear well, but that is it – no costumes, etc. – just stories!

Topics of the stories are in categories of A Big Secret, Accusations, False Identity, Trouble Brewing, Connections, Unusual/Embarrassing, and God Moments.
“It’s been a fun project to put together.”

The next two installments of Secrets and Scandals session:
Tuesday, October 8 and Tuesday November 12
5:30 – 6:15pm
207 S. Cedar St., Lexington, Ill.  Doors and the elevator are on the east side of the building.
We look forward to seeing you there!
